  • Crew: 1 year
  • Owners / Regular Guests: 6 months
  • Charter Guests: Duration of charter

Change Of Captain / Principal and/or Chief Instructor

If your RYA Training centre Principal or Chief Instructor changes or is due to change the RYA must be informed by following the information below:

Change of RYA Principal:

  • Complete an RYA Change of Principal Form (CP) and submit to recognition@rya.org.uk (Forms available on your RYA website login)
  • Review information on the process and your obligations HERE

Change of RYA Chief Instructor:

  • Complete an RYA Change of Recognition Form (CR1) and submit to recognition@rya.org.uk  (Forms available on your RYA website login)


Change of Yacht Name

If your Yacht has had a name change then you must inform the RYA by completing a 'Change of Recognition Form' (CR1) and submitting it to recognition@rya.org.uk  This form is accessible via your RYA training centre RYA website login at this link


RYA PWC (Jetski) Instructor Revalidation:

The RYA PWC (jetski) Instructor Certificate is valid for 5 years. During this 5 year period you must have completed a minimum of 30 hours of RYA instruction at an RYA recognised training centre (Yacht or Land-based).

Assuming you have completed the minimum required hours, complete the RYA Instructor Revalidation form (below) and apply for RYA Membership (if your's has expired). You are required to be a 'current' RYA member at the time of first becoming an instructor and on each and every revalidation.  

If you have completed 30 hours + PWC instructing within last 5 years & your certificate is not expired for more than 1 year:

  • Valid 1st Aid certificate (if STCW, must be completed within last 5 year)
  • Current RYA personal membership
  • Evidence of 30 hours+ tuition within last 5 years
  • Login to your RYA website account: and go to Online RYA PWC Instructor revalidation form

If you have not completed 30 hour of tuition within last 5 years or your certificate expired more than 1 year ago: 

Instructor certificate expired 2 or more years ago? 

  • You will need to complete the instructor course again...
