Change of Principal or Chief Instructor on a Superyacht recognised as a RYA training centre?

Change of Principal:

If you are a Captain / crew member that has joined a vessel that is an existing RYA training centre & you will be allocated as the Principal then there are a few steps that you need to take to ensure that the training centre is current and retains its recognition status:

If a previous crew member that was allocated as the Principal then a 'Change of Principal Form' (form reference C1) will need to be completed (this can be downloaded from your MyRYA training centre website account at this link

You will also need to ensure that you are familiar with your PWC training centre operating procedures (& that the vessel has this paperwork in place!)

  • The RYA must be informed of any change of Principal. The Principal should do this by submitting a Change of Principal form (Form reference CP) with the details of the new Principal to recognition@rya.org.uk. Where changes have a significant impact on the continuity of the senior management team of the Recognised Training Centre (RTC), recognition may be suspended until the centre has been inspected. An additional inspection fee will be charged if this is separate to the annual inspection.

Change of Chief Instructor:

  • If a Chief Instructor position is vacant, recognition will be suspended pending a suitable Chief Instructor being appointed. A suitably qualified Principal may also act as Chief Instructor. A Change of Recognition form (form reference CR1 which can be download from your MyRYA training centre website account at this link) must be submitted to inform RYA Training of the new Chief Instructor to recognition@rya.org.uk

Change of Ownership:

  • An RTC may be required to complete a full application process where there are significant changes to the management or ownership of the Yacht/Centre.
